Do you have what it takes to succeed in small business?
|
Successful small business owners share some pretty special traits. Take our quiz to see if you possess some of the key elements.
Scoring: Give yourself one point for every, "Yes" to the following questions, then rate your score below.
1. Do you have a strong self-esteem?
Small business owners need a healthy self-esteem. After all, you will at times be center stage. You will also need to be able to
weather disappointment and rejection without taking it personally.
2. Do you have a "sales" mentality?
As a small business owner, you will have to sell both yourself and your product or service to complete strangers. Are you, or can you
be, extroverted enough to toot your own horn and talk about your business with the intention of closing the deal?
3. Are you self-disciplined?
Being a small business owner requires that you wear many hats and have the ability to complete tasks that may not be in your area
of passion. Do you have the ability to stay committed to accomplishing your goals without being accountable to anyone else?
4. Are you flexible?
Sometimes things don't turn out the way you thought they would, even if you've banked on it. Can you be flexible enough to let go of
what's not working and be able to embrace new ideas and new ways of accomplishing your goals?
5. Can you live without any income?
Most small businesses don't break even for the first few years. Can you live without income from your business for that long?
6. Do you have the time to grow a business?
Launching a new business takes not only money, but time as well. Do you have the time it will take to start a small business?
7. Are you a good listener?
Today's market requires that your business focus be on your customer's experience, not yours. Are you able to really listen to what
your customers are saying and asking for? If you have employees, will you be able to take suggestions from them and hear them out
as well?
8. Are you organized?
Owning a small business requires an ability to manage and process multiple tasks and documents. Can you stay organized enough
to work efficiently?
9. Do you possess a do-it-yourself mentality?
When you start your small business you will be performing most of the tasks yourself. Do you enjoy learning new skills, embracing
challenges and accomplishing things on your own?
10. Are you a leader?
As your business grows, you may have an opportunity to hire employees or independent contractors. Do you have the ability to lead
others, deal with difficult situations head on and move your business forward through tough times?
